Biblical Commentary
John 13:1-15
By Andres Chinchin
“If I do not wash your feet, you will have no part with me” (John 13:8).
Sometimes we may think that the Christian life is solely about giving and serving others. However, Jesus teaches us that spiritual life begins with receiving— receiving the cleansing and service that God offers us through his son.
Peter had experienced the transfiguration of Jesus, had walked on water and performed miracles in his name, but still he needed to receive the cleansing of God’s servant.
To Think
How difficult it can be to receive God’s love. Often the pride and hypocrisy in our hearts prevent us from doing so. This may have been the sin of Judas Iscariot, the inability to receive God’s spiritual washing.
Let God draw near to us on this day and wash our feet, through his son Jesus Christ and his holy church.
Prayer
Heavenly Father, forgive my pride and my hypocrisy. Here I am Lord, you can wash my feet.
Amen
