Acts 17:16-34
by Andrés Chinchín
“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by human hands. 25 And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything. Rather, he himself gives everyone life and breath and everything else” (Acts 17: 24-25).
In this portion of scripture, Paul is in Athens, the cradle of Western culture. However, the idolatry that exists in it is very great, and Paul feels the need to preach Jesus. His preaching is heard by many, but few are those who ultimately believe in his message.
Sometimes our own opinions about reality and material comfort prevent us from getting closer to God. However, he is the author of all our good and wisdom, and we must not let the created things take the place of the creator.
To think:
In what area of your life are you letting your own opinions or material blessings take the place of Christ?
Prayer:
Lord, thank you for your many blessings in my life. Give me grace and wisdom to give you the glory and honor that you deserve, and not let external blessings and internal thoughts be an impediment to knowing you.
Amen
