Genesis 2: 1-17
por Andrés Chinchín

“And the Lord God commanded the man, ‘You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will certainly die’” (Genesis 2:16-17).

These verses speak to us of God’s creative work. It is because of his love that he creates the world and everything that exists. Furthermore, he creates man to take care of paradise, and to extend his dominion throughout the earth, as we see that the garden was located in a strategic place. However, God gives man a commandment, “do not eat of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.”

It may be disconcerting that, despite all the responsibility and purpose given to man, God does not want him to have the knowledge of good and evil. But this knowledge, outside of God’s will, was something very dangerous for man, and would destroy the purpose that God had for him—it would bring death.

Thoughts to Consider:

There are areas in our lives where God has withheld knowledge from us; however, this is not due to His negligence, but rather His care for us.

Prayer:

Thank you, Lord, for your creative love and purpose in our lives. Allow us to trust in Your mercy and wisdom in the areas that You have chosen not to reveal to us.

Amen
