Deuteronomy 4:1-8
by Andrés Chinchín

“Now therefore, O Israel, hearken to the statutes and the judgments which I teach you, that you may observe them, and live, and go in and possess the land which the Lord, the God of your fathers, is giving you” (Deuteronomy 4:1).

In these verses, the Israelites are ready to enter the Promised Land, and Moses reminds them of the mercy God has shown them during their wanderings in the desert, and of the deliverance they have received from the power of their enemies. Moses also admonishes them to obey God’s commands, for in conquering the Promised Land, the Israelites would have to fight against nations stronger than themselves, and they would need God’s blessing to win.

The same thing happens in our lives. The Lord commands us to keep His commandments and obey Him, so that we will not suffer the consequences of sin in our lives and be destroyed by it.

To think:

Let us not forget the commandments and mercy God has shown us in the past.

Prayer:

Lord, teach us Your statutes so that we may conduct ourselves with integrity.

Amen.
