Ezra 9:5-9
by Andrés Chinchín
“You have allowed our eyes to see a new light and granted us a little relief in the midst of our bondage. Although we are slaves, you have not abandoned us, our God, but have extended your mercy to us in the sight of the kings of Persia” (Ezra 9:8-9).
In these verses, we see Ezra standing in the presence of God acknowledging the generational sin of the people of Israel. However, we also see the goodness of God in the midst of pain and exile, bringing back a remnant who rebuilt the temple and the walls of Jerusalem.
To think:
God is a just God, but he is also a kind and merciful God who does not keep his wrath forever, but delights to forgive and restore.
Prayer:
Thank you Lord for your kindness and inexhaustible love that even in the midst of our rebellion and sin, you remember us and restore us in the sight of all.
Amen
